Guys, today is the Third Anniversary of Waking Up Dead’s first posting! Oh man!

Sadly, we’re still in hiatus. I don’t have an announcement for the return just yet, but I think now’s a great time to actually have some transparency with you guys on the progress of the comic itself.

In the past month, I’ve been working on the comic almost daily (I mentioned it a few times on Twitter). In that time, I’ve finished all work on Occulture Shock, and am beginning work and scripting for Issue 6, which will be titled “Occulturation.”

Here’s the thing though, the art in the next issue is going to be a bit more experimental than in the previous issues, and there is a good reason for that.

Basically, I’m changing up everything. Everything? EVERYTHING.

Firstly, my art style has shifted ever so slightly, so I can’t guarantee that characters won’t look a little different. I basically had to re-learn how to draw everyone after 7 months away. Hopefully this will be for the better (Steve’s muscles I hope will look more realistic in the future).

Next, on Christmas I got a bigger, better scanner (I love it so much), and I’m going to be working on an 11″x17″ scale from this issue on, as opposed to 8.5″x11″.

Lastly , I’m ditching Photoshop and Illustrater almost entirely (I may bring PS back for the occasional moving pages), but I’m going to be working almost entirely in…

DUH DUH DUH DUH, MANGA STUDIO EX 5! I’m hoping by doing this, I’ll have more detail in pages, and my workflow will become a lot more streamlined. Previously, I would transfer my work between Photoshop and Illustrator, and it was a pain. However, learning the program is going to be a bit slow at first, so hence why I haven’t announced a proper return date. I’ve been watching tutorials here and there and teaching myself some new techniques.

Also, lately I’ve been working on a lot of artwork in my spare time. Mostly fanart and the such, but I’ve started posting on a new, personal Tumblr Art blog. Feel free to give me a follow. The WuD tumblr is kind of… dead… so I think I might just assimilate it into my personal blog. I’ll post some new concept artwork there in the future, so it’s worth giving me a follow.

Anyway, that’s all that’s going on behind the curtain. My personal life is kind of in shambles at the moment, but for once, I’d like to kind of keep that to myself.

Oh, and stay tuned later today, because I’m working on a little promo image in Manga Studio right now to whet your appetites for new WuD content.
