So, sadly, I have an announcement to make about Waking Up Dead. Nothing too serious, but still urgent enough to warrant a blog post.

I’m super behind on comics, and I don’t think I’m going to make Tuesday’s update. I’ve been struggling (and failing) to build a buffer for the past month or so.

October and November have been some of the hardest months of my life. Struggling with Erin and my separation, my worsening depression (and subsequent therapy/medication), internship, and lots of hours at my job, I’ve had a lot to deal with, and little time to actually work on each individual comic page, to the point where I am putting the finishing touches on each page only minutes before they go up. While impressive that I can get them done in so little time, I don’t like doing them that way. When I do, backgrounds are replaced with gradients, since I’m rushing my work, which is never a good thing. I’d like to include more detailed backgrounds (and as a result, background gags). Also, I generally work evening shifts at the glitter factory, and with the holiday hours, they tend to keep me late. When I’m scheduled to get out at 10, and I don’t until 11:45, you get late comics, which always feel shameful. At this point, there just isn’t enough time between updates to get the next page finished in time. As such, I feel as though I need a bit of a break from posting.

As a result, Waking Up Dead will NOT update with a comic for the next two weeks (4 updates). I’m taking the holiday off from posting. But, however, I will still be working! I’m going to be making pages as normal during the weeks I’m taking off, but I’m just not going to post them for two weeks. This allows me to work at a more relaxed (and less paranoid) pace, and generally I can get better work done in the time.

Basically, I’m cheating to make a new buffer. Hope you can forgive me.

The comic will pick up where it left off on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31), and I promise I WILL make that update. If I can successfully not miss an update for over 9 months, I think I can successfully post a comic (with multiple in reserve) in two weeks.

HOWEVER, I’m not going to leave you hanging! I’ll be posting some of the concept artwork during the missed updates. To make things even more interesting, I’ll write up some back story about the evolution of the comic in the blog, including character stuff. Essentially, I’ll tell you a bit about the cast of WuD and the creative process, all the while working on the comic on my end. Hopefully you find what I’ll be posting interesting. If not, I’ll see you on December 31st.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t care to read the above:
The story will continue on December 31st. In the meantime, I’ll update with concept art and behind the scenes content while I build a new buffer.
